Deep Tissue Therapy

Slow, deliberate strokes and sustained, focused pressure work through superficial tissue to reach the deep muscular adhesions responsible for chronic pain, restricted movement, and postural imbalance, producing lasting relief that gentler work simply cannot deliver.

About our Deep Tissue Therapy

There is a particular kind of physical pain that does not respond to rest, to stretching, or to the gentle touch of a relaxation massage, the deep, chronic tension that lives in the body’s inner layers, in the muscle bellies and fascial sheaths where stress, injury, and postural habit have created rigid adhesions that restrict movement, compress nerves, and generate a persistent, dull ache that colours every waking hour.

Using slow, deliberate strokes and sustained, focused pressure applied perpendicular to the muscle fibre, your therapist works systematically through the superficial layers of tissue to reach the adhesions beneath, the fibrous bands of contracted muscle and connective tissue that are the source of so much chronic discomfort. Breaking up these adhesions is a precise and methodical process: as the therapist’s pressure is held and gradually deepened, the tissue responds, slowly, then suddenly, releasing in a way that is immediately and profoundly perceptible.

Blood flow is restored to the area. Nerve compression is relieved. The pain that has become so familiar it felt permanent begins to dissolve. The 90-minute session is strongly recommended for those with chronic pain, postural dysfunction, or athletic recovery needs.

Why it works

The Benefits

Breaks up deep muscular adhesions

Slow, focused pressure dissolves the fibrous bands of contracted tissue that cause chronic pain and restricted movement.

Restores healthy blood flow

Breaking up adhesions restores circulation to tissue that has been deprived by contracted muscle, accelerating healing.

Relieves nerve compression

Releases the pressure on nerves responsible for referred pain, tingling, numbness, and the sensation of tightness.

Corrects postural imbalances

Releases the shortened muscles that pull the skeleton out of alignment, producing lasting improvements in posture and movement.

Your session

What to expect

01

Consultation

Your therapist will assess your areas of chronic pain, restricted movement, or postural concerns to create a targeted treatment plan for the session.

02

Warming the tissue

The session begins with lighter pressure to warm the superficial muscle layers and prepare the tissue for deeper work.

03

Deep tissue work

Your therapist applies slow, deliberate, sustained pressure to the target areas, working through the superficial layers to reach and release the deeper adhesions beneath.

04

Integration and close

The session closes with lighter, integrating strokes to ease the treated tissue and support recovery.

Good to Know
  • Communicate openly during the session, productive intensity is expected, sharp or unbearable pain is not
  • Drink plenty of water after your session to flush the metabolic waste released from treated tissue
  • Some muscle soreness in the 24 to 48 hours after a deep tissue session is normal, it is a sign the work was effective
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours after your session
  • The 90-minute session is strongly recommended for chronic pain or postural concerns
Best Suited For
Chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain
Postural imbalances
Athletic recovery
Repetitive strain injuries
Desk workers with chronic tension
Those who have not responded to lighter massage techniques

Why it works

FAQs

There will be moments of productive intensity, a good hurt that is distinct from sharp or genuinely painful sensation. Our therapists always work within your tolerance range, and you should communicate openly if any pressure feels too intense.
Swedish massage uses lighter, flowing strokes designed primarily for relaxation and circulation. Deep tissue massage uses slower, firmer, more sustained pressure to target the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue where chronic tension and adhesions reside.
It is normal to experience some muscle soreness in the 24 to 48 hours after a deep tissue session, similar to the feeling after a challenging workout. This is a sign the treatment has worked effectively and subsides as the tissue heals.
This depends on the severity and duration of the issue being addressed. For acute tension, 1 to 3 sessions may be sufficient. For chronic pain or postural imbalances built up over years, a course of weekly sessions over several weeks typically produces the best results.
